Tips to score on the pitch

Soccer betting is much like other sports betting options, but there are still a few intricacies involved that you have to factor in when you’re wagering on the beautiful game. Here’s what to look for.

1) Home Field

Due to the sheer size of most soccer stadiums, homefield advantage may be more important in soccer than in any other sport. Imagine you’re playing against Barcelona in the Camp Nou, with the better part of 98,000 people yelling at you. It’s not hard to see that you’ll have a tough time keeping your focus, and that’s a major reason why home teams are usually such large favorites on their own pitch.

2) Totals

In soccer, you’ll usually see a total of 2.5, maybe three if they’re two attacking teams. There’s more scoring in soccer than people think, and you should look at the stats to see how these teams fare against one another, i.e., goals scored and against, and past meetings.

3) Upsets?

Upsets are far less likely in soccer than in a sport like, for example, basketball. It’s true that on any given day, any team can beat anyone, but you’re more likely to see a team like the Minnesota Timberwolves upset the Los Angeles Lakers than you see a team like Burnley upset a giant like Manchester United (which happened this year). There’s such a large gulf in class between the top teams and the bottomfeeders that upsets don’t happen very often. But if you can sniff it out, you’ll reap big rewards from soccer betting.
